<p>TORONTO, ON – March 27, 2020 – Today, Fairbnb Canada has closed its
case against Toronto’s ICE condos and its property management company DUKA
Properties Inc. </p>



<p>“Fairbnb
launched the class action three days ago in an
effort to ensure that the large downtown condominium and its property
management company respect the City of Toronto’s short-term rental (“STR”) rules
given the inherent risks associated with accommodating the travelling public in
residential condominiums during the COVID-19 outbreak,” said
Thorben Wieditz of Fairbnb. </p>



<p>ICE condos and DUKA Properties Inc. have now
taken a leadership role in responsible management regarding STRs in Toronto. ICE
condos management released a notice to owners the same day, stating that “short-term
rentals within the Corporation during the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic presents
and undue risk of danger to TSCC2510’s residents and to the short-term tenants
themselves.” As a consequence, the Board of Directors prohibited all STRs in
the building until the current state of emergency is resolved.</p>



<p>&nbsp;“Our client has been
in touch with representatives from TSCC2510 and DUKA following their decision
to ban STRs during the pandemic,” said Eric
Gillespie, Fairbnb’s legal counsel. “Our client is very pleased
by the steps taken and even more so, by DUKA agreeing to advise their other
condominium clients about the option to prohibit STRs during the COVID-19
crisis.” </p>



<p>Additional condominium corporations and property managers, such Maple Leaf Square, are following suit and have issued similar notices to owners. It is hoped others will take the same approach thereby avoiding the need for any further legal steps.</p>
