Airbnb is being sued over claims that hosts who use the site to rent out their homes discriminate against potential renters based on race. Gregory Selden, a 25-year-old black man filed the suit on Monday, claiming his civil rights were violated after being refused an Airbnb vacancy, but later being granted the rental after changing his photo on the site to one of a white man.

Riot police were called to a penthouse flat in south London where Airbnb guests were having a loud party.

Around 150 people turned up at the event in Brixton, which resulted in the Airbnb host being taken to court.

In the latest chapter of an ongoing battle over the sharing economy, the city of Paris is asking residents to squeal on any neighbors who have not properly registered a residence that’s being used as an Airbnb.

Airbnb is formally opposing a bill to ban the advertising of illegal units.

“This bill would unfairly treat everyday New Yorkers who simply share their primary home just like unscrupulous landlords who warehouse apartments to be used as illegal hotels,” Airbnb’s Josh Meltzer wrote in a memo of opposition.

Black Airbnb users have been exposing the racist tendencies of the company’s hosts with the hashtag #AirbnbWhileBlack. One potential guest, however, has taken this a step further: He’s provided proof that Airbnb’s hosts are unapologetically discriminating against people of color.
